The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed five people dead and two were injured while five others were kidnapped during an attack by bandits in Sayaya village of Matazu Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Abubakar Aliyu in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Katsina, said that the gunmen stormed the area on Monday, 6 November in the late hours of the night.
He further revealed that some security operatives were mobilized immediately to the scene, engaging in a gun duel with the bandits.
He said, “On Nov. 6, 2023, at about 0055 hours, armed bandits in their numbers, wielding dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles and shooting sporadically, attacked Sayaya village, Matazu Local Government, Katsina State.
“Upon receipt of the report, immediately operatives were mobilized to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a gun duel and succeeded in repelling the attack.
“However, five people were shot dead and two others were injured.”
Aliyu revealed that the injured persons were rushed to the hospital for medical attention, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, sympathized with the families of the victims.
The PPRO added that the CP urged the public with information that would aid the investigation to come forward and assist.
He added that efforts were being intensified to ensure the rescue of the kidnapped victims unhurt and the arrest of perpetrators of the dastardly act.
