Following the announcement of a nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, the leadership of the unions have now called for an extraordinary National Executive Council, NEC, meeting.
Allnews recalls that the organized labour had on Friday, issued a five-day ultimatum to the Nigerian government over the alleged arrest of its lead Joe Ajaero in Owerri, Imo State.
But today’s emergency meeting is expected to review the modalities of the planned strike with special focus on the attack on the National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Federal Government and the Organized Labour on October 2, 2023 after subsidy was removed.
TUC’s National Vice-President, Tommy Etim, announced the emergency meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
