Good governance without protection of citizens’ rights is deceptive- Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has declared that the true test of good governance lies in the ability of the government to deliver policies that protect the rights of the citizens.

Makinde made this declaration while speaking during the human rights day organised by Save The Poor And Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI).

The event which took place at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, was attended by Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Olalekan Balogun who was represented by Chief Ademola Odunade and the Chief Judge of Oyo state, Justice Iyabo Yerima who was represented by Justice Muftau Adegbola.

Makinde who was represented at the event by his Executive Assistant on Administration, Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe, noted that good governance without protection of citizens’ rights is deceptive.

The governor who was awarded as the best governor of the year by SPANCI added that any government talking about good governance without protecting the right of it’s citizens is only being deceptive.

He maintained that his administration has embarked on various policies aimed to make life more convenient for workers and the less privileged citizens in the state.

“The true test of good governance lies in the ability of the government to deliver policies that protect the rights of it’s citizens.

“Any government talking about good governance without protecting the right of it’s citizens is only being deceptive’.

Yerima, who recognised the good work of the organization maintained that the appointments of eight more judges in the state is now at an advanced stage.

SPANCI President, Comrade Ezekiel Bello maintained that the reason for the gathering was to sensitize the less privileged about their right and the role of the government in protecting and defending their fundamental human rights.

Other awardees are, Oyo State sexual and gender based violence response team coordinator, Bar. Modupe Awosemusi, Mrs Oluwatoyin Adaramodu and Justice Kareem Adedokun.
