Stop collection of road worthiness fees – NNPP chieftain tackles FG, states

Must read

A chieftain of New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has enjoined both the federal and state governments to stop the collection of road worthiness fees across the federation.

Oguntoyinbo advised that collection of road worthiness charges should be cancelled until roads across the country are motorable.

The NNPP chieftain made these declarations via a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.

The NNPP stalwart in the statement maintained that the current rainy season has exposed most of the Nigerian roads.

He added that majority of roads across the federation are not passable and this is causing damages to vehicles on daily basis.

He wondered why governments are collecting road worthiness fees from motorists.

He added that he had a terrible experience recently on the Lagos – Badagry Expressway and the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway.

He spoke further by saying that for governments to collect road worthiness fees, it must make sure that the roads are motorable.

Oguntoyinbo said, “Government must ensure the roads are motorable. Government cannot be demanding road worthiness charges from the vehicle owners whereas it is the bad roads that makes motor vehicles not being road worthy.

“It is like vehicle owners are suffering from two ends. The bad roads damage their vehicles and government also collect fees from them as a way of certifying that their vehicles are road worthy.

“He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. For government to collect road worthiness fees, it must make roads very smooth and motorable”.
