NLC Strike: Labour Minister Lalong briefs VP Shettima on negotiations with unions

Minister of Labour and Productivity, Hon Simon Lalong, on Wednesday briefed Vice President Kashim Shettima about his discussions with the organised labour centre.

AFRIPOST reports that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to begin indefinite strike on Thursday, September 20, 2023 (today).

Briefing newsmen after the meeting with the Vice President in the company of

Lalong who was in company of Minister of State for Labour, Hon Nkiruka Onyejeocha at the State House, Abuja, told newsmen after the meeting that everything was on course towards smooth negotiation with Labour.

He disclosed that Federal Government has spent time with the Union leaders and assured that President Tinubu-led administration takes welfare and prosperity for workers seriously.

The Minister, however, declined to disclose what exactly the government is doing to avert the scheduled strike action on Thursday. He said, “Don’t worry about that. That’s why I said it’s a friendly engagement we are doing with them.

“We don’t have any fears about some of the things they put and also the suggestions and the package of the federal government”.

He told newsmen to direct the question on whether the strike will go on as scheduled on Thursday to the NLC President.
