Power restored in Nigeria after national grid failure

The Nigerian Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced that a recent fire incident, which caused a significant disruption to the national power grid, has been successfully contained.

Arise News reports that more than half of the connections have already been restored, and the remaining ones will be back in operation shortly.

AFRIPOST reports that the power grid, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) from its base in Osogbo, Osun State, had experienced a major failure in the early hours of Thursday, resulting in widespread power outages across much of the country.

The minister stated on X, formerly known as Twitter, “We are on top of the situation and speedy restoration is in progress.

“The fire has been fully arrested and over half of the connections are now up and the rest will be fully restored in no time.

“Delay in update was deliberate, so as not to cause panic and to also be able to update on progress of remedial actions taken so far.”
