UK strengthens bilateral ties with Nigeria, grants 132,000 Visas in 6 months

Jonny Baxter, the British Deputy High Commission to Nigeria has said that in other to strengthen bilateral ties, the United Kingdom (UK) issued around 132,000 visas to Nigerians in the first half of 2023.

He also mentioned that his initial experience in Nigeria has shown him that Nigerians are passionate, energetic, and entrepreneurial spirit minded people.

“I have been here for three and half weeks so I’m still very new. Nigeria has been an amazing place to be and as you know, Nigeria and its citizens are well known to UK.”

He said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday.

Baxter was not able to state the exact number of applications received during the period.

He said, “In the first half of 2023, we granted approximately 132,000 visas, which include visit, work and study visas.”

The High Commissioner mentioned that the UK issued approximately 324,000 visas to Nigerians in 2022.

“In the previous year, we issued about 324,000 visas to Nigeria. The UK, issued about three million visas, in 2022, and of those visas 324,000 were issued to Nigerians.That accounted for about 10% of the three million visas issued by the UK overall.”
