A group, Iṣese Welfare Association (IWA), has enjoined the kingmakers in Oyo town and governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state to pick someone who will promote the traditional practices in Oyo town as the Alaafin of Oyo.
The group gave this advice on Thursday.
The Alaafin of Oyo stoll is currently vacant.
The position became vacant as a result of the demise of the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi who joined his ancestors in April last year.
IWA has enjoined the kingmakers and the governor to pick the most credible candidate that will be ready to identify with traditional religion adherents.
The group in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, said that the new Alaafin of Oyo should be ready to identify with the Yoruba indigenous religion like his predecessors.
IWA in the statement signed by its National Coordinator, Aderemi Aderemi and Secretary-General, Ifagbenuola Popoola, advised the kingmakers and the governor to speed up the selection process.
They added that whoever mounts the throne will be globally-revered among other traditional rulers in Nigeria if the process is properly concluded.
“We implore the Kingmakers to make sure that whoever that is selected or chosen to be the next Alaafin of Oyo must be Isese inclined cum Isese lover; and who is ready to openly identify with Isese as a Yoruba Indigenous Religion.
“That the appointing authority who is the Governor of Oyo State should graciously appoint any eminently qualified candidate that will not only openly identify with Isese religion, but, also help to promote the unique traditional practices in Ọyo Alaafin, always.
“Further, we implore whoever wishes to be next Alaafin to also have in mind that, the stool is meant for someone who will always respect and cherish Isese.”
