A Labour Party stalwart and former Abia State House of Assembly hopeful, Chief Chukwuemeka Utah, on Wednesday, assessed Abia’s developmental standard in the last thirty-two years after its creation by the then military government in the country.
AFRIPOST recalls that Abia was created on 27 August 1991 by the then military government in Nigeria, headed by Major General Ibrahim Badamosi Babaginda (Rtd).
Abia which is situated in Southeast part of Nigeria was curved out from old Imo State and had Col. Ike Nwosu and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu as its first military and civilian governors respectively.
Earlier, Mr Utah, the Chief Executive Officer of Taurus Hotels Limited Umuahia, while interacting with journalists on Wednesday, noted that Abia is yet to attain her desired economic greatness and infrastructural growths in last thirty-two years, attributing the factor to maladministration by past leaders of the state.
He regretted that past leaders of the state failed to display enormous capacities and political will towards lifting out Abia from its festering challenges and obstacles to attaining economic greatness.
The frontline party chieftain called on government at all levels in Nigeria to shift attention and focus to present and promising future that lies ahead, rather than the past failures.
Utah particularly applauded the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti on his administration’s developmental agenda and policy thrusts titled at engendering socio-economic and infrastructural development in every part of Abia state.
According to him, “Under this current administration led by Governor Alex Chioma Otti, we have witnessed a renewed sense of determination and dedication toward the betterment of the state.
“We believe in Dr. Oti’s vision for rapid development and an infrastructure revolution that will transform our state and position it as a shining example among others created in the same year.
“As we celebrate this milestone, let us remember the strength and resilience of our people. We have always been known for our hard work, entrepreneurial spirit, and unity.
“It is through our collective efforts that we can overcome any challenges that come our way and propel our state toward prosperity,” he added.
