The Niger State Police command has paraded twelve suspects involved in robbing residents of MInna, the state capital at night of their motorcycles and handsets.
The state command through the Police Public Relations Officer, PRO DSP Wasiu Abiodun told Journalists that the areas of their operations in Minna include Barkin-Sale, Kpakungu, Shiroro road, Mandela road, Soje-A, Sauka-Kahuta..
The command stated that the arrests were its continued efforts to eradicate and reduce crime and criminality in the state, adding that they were arrested for conspiracy and armed robbery
He noted that on receipt of the information, the command’s Tactical Support Team mobilized to the scene and arrested the syndicate for conspiracy and armed robbery on 13 August 2023″
The gang members include, Jibrin Nadako of Barkin-Sale of Minna, Moh’d Usman (Smally) 20yrs of Sauka-Kahuta, Minna, Kure Musa 25yrs of Kpakungu, Minna.
According to him, the suspects have been involved in stealing of motorcycles and snatching of handsets, mostly at night adding that the suspects led the Police team to four receivers that bought Phones at the Obasanjo shopping complex
He explained that about ten motorcycles were stolen by the suspects from different parts of Minna while three were recovered which include one Bajaj and two Jincheng motorcycles.
The PRO further state that five receivers of the stolen motorcycles who were arrested at Paiko, Paikoro local government bought the motorcycles between #80,000 to #120,000.
In a related development, the police also arrested a syndicate that have for about five years stolen over 500 goats from different locations of Minna, the state capital.
Abiodun said during interrogation the suspects stated that they committed the crime for survival which they sold at between N10,000 to N15,000, depending on the size of the goats, to butchers in Maitumbi and Tunga areas of the state capital.
