Some suspected kidnappers have been arrested following the abduction of 10 persons on Orokam – Otukpa road in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident which happened last week around the Agada hill in Orokam left Ogbadibo LGA devasted when the people could not be traced.
But the police mobilized local vigilante from Owukpa, Otukpa and Orokam to join a joint operation to comb the forests within the axis.
The suspects were, however arrested at a check point mounted in Orokam by the police following a tip off from Owukpa that a car conveying suspected criminals was heading to Orokam enrute Obollo Afor.
During the search of their vehicle, a huge amount of money, army and police uniforms, masks and other equipment used for kidnapping were recoverd. Also recovered were guns with assorted ammunition.
The four suspects, one from Owukpa, another from Orokam and the other two from Enugu and a Fulani herdsman respectively are currently helping the police in its investigation.
AFRIPOST gathered Friday that police finally succeeded in locating the kidnappers’ hideouts and have freed all those being held by the suspects.
Effort to reach the Orokam Divisional police station failed as the number of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, could not connect as at press time.
Recall that recently, kidnapping activities in Ogbadibo have been on the rise. Two weeks ago, a suspected kidnapper was arrested in Owukpa and handed over to the police.
Though the suspect succeeded in abducting a young lady, she was later set free after the news of the arrest got to the other abductors.
Owukpa is currently a hotbed of kidnapping activities and the community has continued to cry out to the government to come to their rescue.
In another development, suspected kidnapper shot a man heading to Owukpa from Orokam on Friday evening. The man is now battling between life and death at an undisclosed hospital.
Orokam-Owukpa road has also become notorious for kidnapping activities.
