The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has announced his resignation as leader of his party.
The former Nasarawa State governor was said to have resigned to avoid being sacked by his party.
Report had it earlier that Adamu was asked to throw in the towel due to his poor support for President Bola Tinubu during the presidential campaign.
Pressure had been mounting on the national chairman to throw in the towel since Tinubu emerged as president and assumed office on May 29, 2023.
Adamu’s sudden resignation comes ahead of APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting scheduled for July 19 by him in order to prepare for the July 18 and 19 Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) sessions, respectively.
It is not clear yet if the meetings will still hold.
The meeting of the same NWC, Caucus and NEC meetings scheduled for last week was moved to July 17, 18 and 19 following disagreements among party members.
