The Anambra State Government has set up a Committee of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate the JAMB and Mmesoma Ejike matter.
This is coming after days of media debates on the Ejike’s claim that she is the 2023 UTME highest scorer with 362 points while JAMB maintained that her claim was false, saying that the candidate scored 249 in the exams.
Anambra government waded into the matter to pause the disturbing media reactions by setting up 8-man Committee of Inquiry to look into the matter.
AFRIPOST reports that JAMB has banned Ejike from participating in the exams for two years and vowed to prosecute the candidate for alleged result forgery.
Members of the Committee include:
- Prof. Nkemdili Nnonyelu (Chairman)
-
Prof. Mercy Okonkwo – member
-
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh – member
-
Prof. Maduabuchi Dukor – member
-
Prof. Jaja Nwanegbo – member
-
Rev. Sr. Prof. Mary-Felicia Opara – member
-
Rev. Cannon Dr. Uchenna Umeifekwem – member
-
Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata (MD, Anambra Information Communication Technology Agency) – member
PM News reports that the Committee was set up on Tuesday after Miss Mmesoma went to the office of the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh with her UTME result to protest that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) didn’t recognize her as the candidate with the highest score.
The Commissioner in turn called JAMB to confirm her claim but she was told that Mmesoma’s result was forged.
It was at this point that JAMB authorities invited the Directorate of State Services (DSS) to investigate the matter and make its findings known.
Speaking further on the matter, Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, Paul Nwosu noted that the investigation was yet to be done when JAMB went public with the matter, thus eliciting the raucous conversations we’ve seen in the media.
Nwosu said: “It is not our wish to join the slanging match or take sides at this stage. But as a responsible government we have decided to undertake an independent investigation into the matter.
“In the light of the above, Anambra State Government has set up a Committee of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate the JAMB/Mmesoma matter. The findings of this Committee will be made public.”
