Enugu: Balance political appointments – PDP chieftain tells Gov Mbah

A former Enugu North Senatorial District aspirant, Hon Chinedu Eya has urged Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to be fair to all the zones in his distribution of political offices.

The politician gave the advice in a personal letter he wrote to the Governor.

Eya, who commended the governor following his recent appointments of individuals with competence to help him in driving the wheels of governance, explained that caution should be applied in the distribution of power to avoid resentments and disaffection among followers.

He told Governor Mbah that: “While I like to commend you for your recent appointments of competent and intellectual mobile hands into your government, I admit that the zonal spread of the key positions should have been handled differently as no zone should be seen as having more appointees against another zone, as this would bring about disaffection and distrust to your government.

“Over the past few days, following your recent appointments of Chief Staff, SPAs, SSAs and SAs, we have watched verbal wars erupt among various persons in our dear zones, questioning their perceived lopsidedness in your recent approval of appointees.

“I have also witnessed firsthand how some people who believe they contributed immeasurably to your emergence during the last election have been mocked and called names for standing up for you during the elections, following the announcement of the list.

“I would like to hereby make a passionate plea to you, Your Excellency, Sir. As we prepare to receive another round of appointees into your Government, I submit that you spread these positions across LGAs and zones of Enugu State, so as to give every Tom, Dick and Harry, a fair and just sense of belonging as no region or zone can boast of having monopoly of competent and qualified individuals in the state than the others.”

Eya, while stressing that he believes in politics of inclusivity and proper representation, said it was the reason he aspired to represent Enugu North Senatorial zone in the Senate.

He said that was why he sought a better platform “through which I will speak, defend and advance the course of people of my Senatorial District, but without results.”

“As we all look forward to a very prosperous Enugu State under your charge, please be assured of my kind regards and best wishes” the letter added.
