The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant seizures of illicit drugs in various locations across Nigeria. In Lagos State, the agency intercepted two imported consignments of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing a total of 5,344.1 kilograms. The seizures took place along the Epe-Lekki corridor and at the Alfa beach in the Lekki area.
According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the interceptions were made based on credible intelligence. In the first operation, anti-narcotics officers laid an ambush for a white truck transporting 50 jumbo bags of the illicit substance, weighing 2,434.1kg, along the Epe-Lekki expressway on the early morning of Monday, June 19. The truck driver managed to escape in a security Hilux van after the NDLEA successfully immobilized the vehicle.
The agency’s Marine command also acted on intelligence and intercepted a boat loaded with the same imported substance weighing 2,910kg at Alfa Beach. Two Ghanaian nationals, Monday Saba, aged 30, and Hakeem Kwana, aged 27, were arrested in connection with the consignments.
In Niger State, the NDLEA arrested two suspects, Abubakar Mohammed, aged 32, and Nuhu Sale, aged 43, on Sunday, June 18, along the Abuja expressway in Suleja. The arrests were made in possession of 31 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 517kg. Additionally, a 30-year-old woman named Amina Alilu was apprehended on Wednesday, June 21, in Ogbogodo village, Dekina LGA, Kogi State, with 171kg of the illicit substance.
In Kwara State, the agency nabbed a suspected fake female security agent named Ogedegbe Dorcas, aged 34, at Ajegunle Asa Dam Area in Ilorin. She was found in possession of 30kg of cannabis on Thursday, June 22. Meanwhile, in Oyo State, NDLEA operatives intercepted Segun Olajide, aged 42, with 49.2kg of the same substance on Saturday, June 24, in Oyo town.
The agency’s operatives also conducted a successful operation in Edo State, where they raided Ekudo forest in Uhunmwode LGA. The operation resulted in the destruction of a cannabis farm measuring 2.494863 hectares. The NDLEA recovered 67kg of processed weeds and arrested six suspects: Onyeka Onyedinma, Monday Onyedi, Alex Eboh, Edosa Imariagbe, Godbless Tunde, and Godstime Osarobo.
