Heavy downpour submerges houses at Trademore Estate in Abuja, FEMA urges relocation

In a statement by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), it was revealed that more than 116 houses at Trademore Estate in Abuja were submerged due to heavy downpour on Friday morning. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

During an on-the-spot assessment visit, Dr. Abbas Idriss, the director-general of FEMA, attributed the flooding at Trademore Estate to infractions on the water channel. He appealed to residents whose houses are built on the water channel to consider relocating for their safety.

Dr. Idriss emphasized that Trademore Estate is situated on a water channel, making it vulnerable to floods. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and residents for their cooperation, which contributed to preventing any loss of life. He also debunked false social media reports claiming that a resident had been swept away by the flood.

Considering the predictions by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) regarding heavy floods in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during this rainy season, Dr. Idriss urged residents of the Estate whose houses are situated on the water channel to prioritize their safety and relocate.

In case of any emergency, the FEMA boss urged residents to utilize the toll-free number 112 for immediate assistance.
