In a devastating incident that unfolded yesterday, Mark Shagari, a 200-level student of the Biological Science department at Federal University Wukari (FUW), was brutally stabbed to death within the university campus. The assailants, suspected to be cultists, attacked Shagari with knives, leaving the campus community in a state of fear and panic.
The incident occurred around 8:00 pm near Atoshi students’ villa, where Shagari sustained multiple knife injuries during a struggle with the suspected cultists. According to sources, the attackers posed as if they were attempting to snatch his phone, a common strategy employed by cult groups within the university known for their involvement in theft and even rape.
Although Taraba State police spokesman, Abdullahi Usman, could not be reached for immediate comment, the university’s director of public relations, Ashu Agya, confirmed Shagari’s tragic demise. However, she did not explicitly attribute the killing to the actions of cult members. Agya assured that the university authorities are collaborating with the police to investigate the incident and determine the circumstances surrounding it.
The news of Shagari’s death has deeply affected the campus community, resulting in a disruption of academic activities as students fear further attacks. The university is currently holding a security meeting to address the situation, and the victim’s parents have been notified and are present at the institution.
This tragic incident sheds light on the urgent need for enhanced security measures within the university premises and highlights the detrimental impact of cult activities on the safety and well-being of students.
