The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has responded with shock and disbelief to Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa’s public confession regarding his influence over his wife, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, during her tenure as the President of the Court of Appeal. In a statement issued by NBA President Mr Yakubu Maikyau, he expressed utter shock and disgust after watching the video clip of Senator Bulkachuwa’s confession during the 9th Senate’s valedictory session. The NBA President emphasized the need for investigation and prosecution of the former federal lawmaker, asserting the association’s unwavering commitment to defending the judiciary’s honor, integrity, and independence.
Mr Maikyau, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), called upon the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to promptly invite Senator Muhammad Adamu Bulkachuwa for interrogation and subsequent prosecution. The NBA President also announced his intention to follow up his call with formal letters to the IGP and the ICPC Chairman. The association reiterated its dedication to upholding the integrity and independence of the Nigerian judiciary, irrespective of the individuals involved, within the confines of the law.
