The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as well as Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II, also extended their sympathies to the families affected by the boat mishap. This tragic event has deeply saddened the entire community.
The boat crash was confirmed by Okasanmi Ajayi, the spokesperson for the state police Command. In a brief statement, Ajayi shared the latest update: “Update on the boat accident in Patigi: 103 dead, others survived. Names of survivors will be made public as soon as they are available.” The loss of over 100 lives in this unfortunate incident has brought immense grief to Kwara, Niger, and Kogi States.
Reports indicate that the boat mishap occurred on Monday while the victims were returning from a wedding ceremony in the neighboring Egboti village, Niger State. Tragically, the boat capsized at Egbu village, resulting in the loss of more than 100 lives. So far, around 50 bodies have been recovered from the river.
Governor AbdulRazaq, through a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, expressed his deepest condolences to the affected communities and individuals from other states. The governor is closely monitoring the ongoing rescue efforts to find any possible survivors.
