Man arrested for allegedly duping seminary in Ebonyi

Must read

The Ebonyi State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against fraud, apprehending a 31-year-old man named Benjamin Ufor. Ufor stands accused of defrauding St. Augustine Seminary College in Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, out of a substantial sum of N425,000.

The arrest of Benjamin Ufor came after a petition was submitted by Sampson Ekigbo, the solicitor of the college, to the state Commissioner of Police. According to the petition, Ufor had approached the Rector of the College in November 2022, posing as a staff member of a health company. However, it was later discovered that he was merely a salesman for a marketing company with offices in Abuja and Lagos.

Under false pretenses, Ufor convinced the Rector that he could supply cushion massaging machines to the college. Based on this representation, the college paid him the sum of N425,000. However, after the transaction, Ufor disappeared without delivering the promised machines. The college attempted to contact the company in May 2023 but received no response.

The solicitor, in his petition, expressed concern over Ufor’s fraudulent activities and requested the intervention of the police. He highlighted the potential danger posed by Ufor’s continued presence in society, emphasizing the need to bring him to justice.

Acting promptly on the petition, the SWAT officers of the Ebonyi State Police Command arrested Benjamin Ufor and brought him to the SWAT office inside the police headquarters in Abakaliki for interrogation.

This arrest serves as a reminder that fraudsters will face the full force of the law, and law enforcement agencies are committed to protecting the public from such financial crimes.
