Melaye urges Bello, SDP candidate to prioritize stability

Must read

Senator Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the governorship race in Kogi State, has strongly condemned the recent clash between the governor of Kogi State and the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Melaye emphasized that the peace and safety of the people of Kogi should not be compromised for political gain.

The incident occurred when the convoy of the Kogi State governor was allegedly attacked by armed thugs suspected to be supporters of the SDP candidate, Alhaji Muritala Yakubu. Melaye, in a statement released in Lokoja, expressed his concern over the situation and called on both Governor Yahaya Bello and the SDP candidate to avoid escalating tensions and creating chaos in Kogi State.

Melaye urged the Federal Government, led by Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to utilize the Office of the President to initiate an immediate investigation into the clash between the governor’s camp and the SDP candidate’s team. He stressed the importance of holding those involved accountable, regardless of their social standing or influence.

In a separate development, the Ezennia Rosemary Azuka (ERA) Foundation is taking significant steps towards promoting excellence and equal access to quality education. The foundation has announced the commencement of its 2023 scholarship programs, specifically designed to support highly deserving students from secondary schools across Nigeria.

Mrs. Atakulu Chidilim, the managing director/secretary of the ERA Foundation, stated that these scholarships aim to provide financial support and educational opportunities to exceptional students who demonstrate outstanding academic excellence. The foundation’s commitment to promoting equal opportunities in education nationwide is reflected in the scholarships being open to students from all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Eligibility for the ERA Foundation Scholarship programs requires students to be enrolled in either junior secondary schools (JSS1) or senior secondary schools (SS1) by September 2023. The selection process will consider academic achievements, potential, socio-economic background, financial need, and a demonstrated passion for learning. Recipients of the scholarship will receive comprehensive support, including coverage of tuition fees, study materials, and accommodation expenses where necessary.
