Mbah appeals for Kanu’s release, ends Sit-at-Home order in Enugu

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has declared an end to the sit-at-home order in the state, effective from Monday, June 5, 2023. Recognizing that such directives hinder creativity, entrepreneurship, and productivity, the governor emphasized the importance of dialogue in achieving lasting peace and security. In his quest for healing and reconciliation, he called on President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The governor made these announcements during the first security council meeting at the Government House in Enugu. Attended by heads of all security agencies, as well as Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, the meeting aimed to address crucial matters affecting the state. Governor Mbah reminded the people of Enugu of his commitment to good governance, exemplified by the signing of three executive orders on his inauguration day. Notably, Executive Order 002 focused on removing unauthorized street barriers across the state within 100 days.

Time is of the essence, according to Governor Mbah, as he acknowledged the mandate given to him by the people and the deliverables he promised. He emphasized the need for progress and the decision to move forward instead of remaining trapped in underdevelopment. The governor praised the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of the Igbo people, expressing concern that the sit-at-home practice every Monday undermines their commercial and creative potential.

Governor Mbah stressed the connection between his promises to the people and the vibrancy of commerce in the state. He emphasized the transition from a public service economy to a private sector-driven one, requiring the removal of restrictions on commerce. To attract private sector practitioners and investors, Enugu State must dispel the perception of being unproductive. The governor condemned the strike on Mondays, stating that it hampers the entrepreneurial spirit and prevents businesses from thriving in a conducive environment.

Enugu State is recognized as a fertile ground for commerce, but to flourish, businesses need a dynamic workforce and expansive markets. Governor Mbah concluded by urging the people to reject those who hinder progress and restrict the Igbo spirit of creativity. By embracing a vibrant and productive work culture, Enugu State can attract investments and foster economic growth.
