In a recent incident that unfolded at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos, a Lagos-bound aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines veered off the runway. The aircraft was carrying 50 passengers and was returning from Chuba Okadigbo Airport in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, according to Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, the head of corporate communications for the airline.
United Nigeria Airlines promptly notified the relevant authorities and has been cooperating fully to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. The aircraft, identified as 5N-BWW, had safely landed but had to stop its movement towards the apron off the runway. All passengers disembarked without harm and were safely escorted to the arrival hall along with their luggage.
Officials from the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) are on-site, working in collaboration with United Nigeria Airlines’ engineers to relocate the aircraft to the hanger. Additionally, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) have been duly informed and are present at the scene. The airline emphasizes its commitment to adhering to the strictest safety standards and always prioritizing passenger safety.
