The newly inaugurated Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has taken swift action by directing the immediate suspension of all Transport Levies payable to the Abia State government. This decision aims to fulfill his campaign promise of sanitizing revenue collection methods in Abia and putting an end to extortion, intimidation, and harassment of motorists. Governor Otti made this announcement through his official Twitter handle on Wednesday.
In a series of tweets, the Governor emphasized his commitment to creating a transparent and organized system for the collection of Transport Levies in the state. The suspension applies to Tricycles, Buses, Taxis, and other commercial vehicles operating on Abia roads. Effective immediately, the levies will be suspended until a thorough review is conducted and public arrangements are made for their collection in a fair and transparent manner.
Governor Otti further stated that all individuals directly or indirectly involved in the collection of these levies must cease their activities without delay. Those who fail to comply with this directive will face legal consequences as security agents have been briefed and instructed to apprehend and bring to justice anyone found violating this order.
