The new governor of Kano State, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, is determined to bring about a positive transformation and restore integrity to the state. In his inaugural speech on Monday, he unveiled four executive orders that will be implemented immediately. One of these orders is aimed at addressing the issue of public properties that were unlawfully sold during the administration of his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of rectifying the immoral act of plundering and selling public assets. He declared that all the properties, including lands near educational, religious, and cultural sites, hospitals, graveyards, green areas, and the city wall of Kano, should be seized by law enforcement agencies. The police, DSS, Civil Defence, and Hisbah will lead the efforts to secure these properties until the government reaches a final decision.
Paragraph 3: Additionally, the governor’s directive extends to other landed properties and assets belonging to Kano State, both within and outside the state, which were sold to individuals connected to Ganduje’s administration. To ensure justice prevails, a Judicial Commission of Inquiry will soon be established, tasked with identifying and holding accountable all those involved in the illegal activities.
Paragraph 4: In a bold move, Governor Yusuf has relieved all political appointees heading government MDAs and Companies of their duties, effective immediately. Furthermore, all boards of MDAs, companies, and institutions of higher learning have been dissolved. These actions are intended to facilitate a fresh start, as the governor endeavors to restore honor, dignity, and responsibility to Kano State, while promoting progress and prosperity.
The governor’s commitment to a clean and well-maintained environment is evident in his announcement of the establishment of a Taskforce on Refuse Disposal, Evacuation of Drainages, and Street Cleaning, known as Operation Nazafa. Comprised of various stakeholder groups, this task force will work diligently to address the challenges of waste management and ensure the cleanliness of the streets and drainage systems.
By implementing these comprehensive measures, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf aims to revitalize Kano State, combat corruption, and create an environment conducive to growth and development. His resolute actions will undoubtedly set the stage for a brighter future for the people of Kano, as they regain trust in their government and witness positive changes unfold.
