In a significant operation aimed at curbing criminal activities, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a consignment of 32 pieces of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) en route to a bandits’ camp in Niger State. This operation is part of the agency’s intensified efforts to combat drug-related crimes ahead of the upcoming May 29 inaugurations across the country.
Following the arrest made on May 22nd along Wawa Road, Kainji, Niger State, the suspect, Musa Muhammadu, has been promptly transferred to the military by the chairman/chief executive officer of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (retd). This swift action demonstrates NDLEA’s commitment to maintaining national security.
In another noteworthy achievement, just a week after intercepting a consignment of 30.10kg of methamphetamine destined for London, UK, NDLEA operatives at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Ikeja Lagos have uncovered yet another shipment. This time, it involved 379 grams of the same illicit substance concealed in the false bottom of six black soap containers, discreetly packed in a carton of local hand fans. The shipment was heading to Cyprus in Europe.
The Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) officers of the agency successfully recovered the aforementioned illicit substance at a courier company in Lagos. This operation highlights the vigilance and effectiveness of NDLEA in tackling drug trafficking.
Noteworthy arrests have also been made in various states across the country. In Adamawa State, a Cameroonian national named Ndawai Emma Ngalou was apprehended with a pair of Nigerian Army camouflage uniforms and two ATM cards belonging to Turaki Mohammed and Ekene Izuegunam. This arrest underscores the agency’s commitment to curbing illegal activities and preserving national security.
In separate incidents, Bilkisu Yusuf and Kauna Katsina were arrested in Ningi town, Bauchi State, with 11,080 pills of tramadol. Additionally, Uche Shadrach was apprehended with 20,480 pills of the same pharmaceutical opioid along the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State. These arrests demonstrate NDLEA’s relentless efforts in combating the abuse and illicit distribution of controlled substances.
Further operations led to the arrests of Surajo Adamu and Muhammad Ali with 379,200 tablets of Diazepam in Alimosho area of Lagos. The MMIA command of the agency also took custody of 22 cartons of Tramadol 225mg weighing 1,144.30 kg and 12 cartons of Tramadol 120mg weighing 320kg, containing a total of 2,317,400 pills. These seizures were transferred to the agency by the Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, showcasing the collaborative efforts in curbing drug trafficking.
NDLEA, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, NSCDC, and the Police, conducted a raid on the notorious Abbi town in Ndokwa West LGA, Delta State. This operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects: Eunice Eneh, Animan Ifeoma, and Chuks Webema Dennis. The combined efforts led to the recovery of a total of 343.9kg of cannabis, dealing a significant blow to drug trafficking in the area.
In Bayelsa State, NDLEA successfully apprehended a wanted suspect, Ozoemena Egbochue, at the Swali market in Yenagoa. This arrest followed the earlier capture of his sales boy, Morgan Eredeowei, with 11,748 pills of tramadol and diazepam. These arrests underline NDLEA’s commitment to identifying and neutralizing key individuals involved in drug-related crimes.
