The operation successfully thwarted the kidnappers’ attempt to extort a ransom of N30 million for the doctor’s release.
Commissioner Alawari revealed that the police received crucial information regarding a mysterious corpse found at the Edikwu river bank in Otukpo local government area. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the deceased was Babatunde Moses, aged 29, who was last seen at a burial ceremony. Five suspects, namely Idoko Omoru, Eze Emmanuel, Obande Emmanuel, Ameh Peter, and Sunday, were arrested in connection with the murder. The police are currently conducting further investigations to unravel the motive behind the gruesome act and the removal of internal organs.
In another incident, the police successfully rescued a group of passengers traveling from Kaduna to Enugu who were intercepted by gunmen in Daudu, Benue State. Acting swiftly upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene, causing the suspects to flee, leaving behind a bag containing military camouflage uniforms and wooden guns. While en route to Taraba State to attend to a patient, they were ambushed by armed assailants in Zaki-Biam. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N40 million, subjecting the doctor to physical abuse. However, through the diligent efforts of the police, he and his fellow captives were rescued without the payment of any ransom.
