Customs seizes sacks of donkey meat worth N23m in Kebbi

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Birnin Kebbi Area Command in Kebbi State has made a significant interception of 414 sacks of donkey meat valued at N23 million. The Area Comptroller, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, revealed this during a press briefing held at the command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi. The confiscation of these goods is empowered by Section 63 (b) of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) cap C45 LFN 2004, which grants the authority to seize items like donkey meat and pangolin that are being transported within or outside the country. Additionally, the command also seized used vehicles and other items valued at N71.2 million.

The interception took place at the Bunza/Kamba border in Kebbi State, where the customs officers, in collaboration with other security personnel, intercepted a truck loaded with 414 sacks of donkey meat. This successful operation highlights the vigilance and effective coordination among the security agencies in curbing illegal activities related to the transportation of prohibited goods.

Comptroller Oramalugo shared that the efforts of the command in revenue generation have yielded positive results. In April of this year, the command generated an impressive N127.3 million. This achievement can be attributed to the command’s continuous engagement with stakeholders and the utilization of advice from community leaders, as well as retired and serving security personnel in the state. By adopting these proactive measures, the command has demonstrated its commitment to upholding customs regulations and maximizing revenue collection.
