Troops neutralize 46 terrorists, arrest 89 in 2 Weeks – Reports

In a recent update by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), it has been revealed that troops deployed for internal security operations in various regions of Nigeria have made significant progress in combating terrorism. Within a span of two weeks (from May 4th to May 18th, 2023), the troops were able to neutralize 46 terrorists, apprehend 89 terrorists, logistics suppliers, and collaborators. Additionally, they successfully rescued 28 kidnapped civilians.

Major General Musa Danmadami, the Director of Defence Media Operations, provided a breakdown of the operations. Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, operating in the North East, recorded 26 neutralized Boko Haram terrorists and Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists. They also arrested 25 terrorists logistics suppliers, one terrorist spy, and one Boko Haram terrorist. Notably, the troops successfully rescued one kidnapped Chibok schoolgirl.

The recovered items from the operations are impressive and include various firearms such as AK47 rifles, SMGs, grenades, pump-action guns, and more. Additionally, a substantial number of ammunition rounds, explosive devices, vehicles, mobile phones, motorcycles, and other materials were seized from the terrorists. The recovered items, along with the apprehended suspects and rescued civilians, have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and action.

The report also highlighted the surrender of 511 Boko Haram terrorists and Islamic State of West Africa Province members, along with their families. This surrender occurred at different locations within the theatre of operations. The surrendered individuals include 99 adult males, 161 adult females, and 251 children.

In the North West region, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji successfully neutralized 12 terrorists, arrested 26 suspected criminals, and rescued 24 kidnapped civilians. The recovered items in this region include firearms, ammunition, clothing, and various other materials.

Moving to the North Central region, troops of Operation Safe Haven neutralized two terrorists and arrested 25 suspected criminals. They also recovered firearms, motorcycles, and cattle that had been rustled.

In the South East region, troops of Operation Udo Ka neutralized two terrorists, apprehended seven suspected terrorists, and rescued four kidnapped civilians. Mobile phones, motorcycles, and a truck were among the recovered items in this region.

The Defence Headquarters emphasized that all the recovered items, apprehended suspects, and rescued civilians have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action. The surrendered Boko Haram terrorists and their families have been profiled and also handed over to the appropriate authority.

The relentless efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces in combating terrorism are commendable. These recent achievements contribute significantly to improving the security situation in the affected regions and fostering peace and stability in the country.
