The Niger State Police Command has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the village head of Dugge, Alhaji Abdullahi Zaure, and nine other individuals. According to Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the police command, suspected bandits launched an attack on several villages in Rijau District, Rijau Local Government Area, and subsequently kidnapped the victims.

The attack took place on the outskirts of Shambo village, Genu, Tungan-Bunu, Jamaare, and Sabongari-Ushe villages within the local government. During the raid, Alhaji Abdullahi Zaure, the village head of Dugge, was abducted, and three others sustained injuries, requiring treatment at Tungan-Magajiya General Hospital.

Tragically, the bandits also kidnapped nine other individuals in different locations as they moved around. In response to the incident, a military fighter jet and joint security forces swiftly engaged the bandits, causing them to scatter and seek safety.

As a result of the engagement, four victims managed to escape from the bandits and were subsequently rescued. Additionally, security forces were able to recover 60 cattle. However, the remaining hoodlums fled with their captives through the Rijau-Warari-K’gora Road and crossed into Sangeko, an area in Zamfara State, via the Kotonkoro-Bena Road.

Contrary to rumors suggesting the abduction of 49 people, the police spokesperson clarified that efforts are underway to secure the release of the victims currently in captivity. The Commissioner of Police, Ogundele Ayodeji, has called for calm and assured the public that the police, alongside other security agencies, are actively working to rescue the abducted individuals.

The abduction of the village head and other community members is a distressing incident that highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by the affected areas. The police and security forces are committed to taking swift action to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

It is crucial for residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing any relevant information that could aid in the rescue operation. The safety and well-being of the community are paramount, and concerted efforts from all stakeholders are necessary to restore peace and security to the region
