In a strong statement, the Civil Society Central Coordinating Council has cautioned President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be cautious of Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State and Bayo Onanuga for disseminating false information regarding the study leave of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Led by national coordinator Bar Obed Agu, the group expressed astonishment at Governor Matawalle’s reliance on debunked fake news, indicating that his intention was to salvage his tarnished image before the President-elect. It should be noted that Governor Matawalle failed to secure victory in the recently held elections, making him the only governor seeking reelection to face defeat.
The Civil Society Central Coordinating Council stressed the need for caution, urging Tinubu to keep Governor Matawalle at a distance from his government. They argued that appointing an individual rejected by the people of Zamfara into the cabinet would not align with the sensibilities of the Zamfara people. Therefore, it is imperative to be wary of such individuals surrounding Tinubu.
Furthermore, the group applauded CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele for his commendable policies and actions, highlighting his expertise and unwavering commitment that have played a crucial role in stabilizing Nigeria’s economy. Despite challenging circumstances, Emefiele’s significant financial interventions in critical sectors like agriculture and small and medium-scale businesses have yielded positive outcomes and impacted the economy positively.
The Civil Society Central Coordinating Council emphasized the importance of accurate information, acknowledging that without Emefiele’s dexterity, finesse, dedication, and commitment to service, Nigeria’s economy would have faced even greater challenges. The group praised Emefiele’s multibillion Naira interventions in key sectors of the economy, which served as a booster despite prevailing circumstances both in the country and globally.
In conclusion, the group called on those spreading falsehoods to cease their actions and leave Emefiele to focus on ensuring a seamless transition for the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This, they believe, will ultimately benefit all Nigerians and contribute to the country’s progress and development
