School principal expels student impregnated by teacher in Delta, controversy, resolution unveiled

Must read

In a troubling incident, a secondary school teacher, Christian Oruanayeri, allegedly impregnated a JSS2 pupil from Otovwodo Grammar School in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The unfortunate occurrence took place approximately three months ago, prompting the girl’s parents to raise an alarm and report the matter to the school’s principal, Mr. Felix Onovughe.

Regrettably, the principal, seemingly uncomfortable with the situation, allegedly attempted to sweep the case under the rug, leaving the parents frustrated. Determined to seek justice for their daughter and hold the erring teacher accountable, the parents pursued alternative means, involving the Ministry of Education.

Following public outrage, the Ministry of Education in Ughelli North Local Government Area intervened, directing the arrest and detention of the suspect by Delta Police Command operatives at ‘B’ Division in Agbarha-Otor. In a positive turn of events, the Director of Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) in Ughelli North LGA, Mrs. Basil Iwhiwhu, ordered the reinstatement of the expelled pregnant pupil.

In a surprising twist, the families of the teacher and the pupil reportedly sought to resolve the matter privately and amicably. They held discussions and ultimately decided to allow the couple to get married, thus settling the dispute. This development took place outside of the public eye, as the families evaded media attention.

Mrs. Eduvie, the Chief Inspector of Education (CIE) in Ughelli North, confirmed the incident, acknowledging the pregnancy and reporting the matter to the Ministry of Education. Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, verified the incident. However, he revealed that both families involved chose to withdraw the case from the police through a sworn affidavit.

As of now, it remains unclear whether the teacher in question continues to teach at the school, has been transferred, or has faced any disciplinary action from the ministry.
