The Lagos State Police Command has said handcuffing Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti was in line with normal detention procedure.
Following his alleged assault on a police officer on Lagos famous bridge, Third Mainland Bridge, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Akali Baba had ordered the immediate arrest of the singer.
Consequently, Kuti reported personally to the station before he was arrested and now in police custody.
A viral picture of the artist on handcuff on social media before he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, in Panti for further investigation and possible prosecution.
But questioning why he was handcuffed, a Nigerian on Twitter, Olumuyiwa Adejobi asked the Police Public Relations Officer, if such was necessary.
In response, Adejobi said it was the police standard procedure.
@Ajinomoto wrote: “Was the handcuff necessary and why collect his shoe? NPF sha”.
Adejobi responded, “It seems you are not familiar with detention. With this question. Anyway, it’s a normal procedure before detention.”
