Emergency FEC meeting clears 37 pending memos with 14 days left in administration

In a rare move, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is currently presiding over an extraordinary Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday. This urgent gathering has been called to address a backlog of tasks as the President Muhammadu Buhari administration approaches its final 14 days in office.

The meeting, which commenced at approximately 11:00am, aims to tackle 37 memoranda from various ministries, departments, and agencies that require attention. It is important to note that this additional FEC meeting does not replace the regular session scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, as confirmed by reliable sources within the cabinet.

Prominent attendees at the meeting include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha; the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (Rtd); and the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Also present are key ministers such as Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola; Science and Technology Minister Olorunimbe Mamora; Finance, Budget and National Planning Minister Mrs. Zainab Ahmed; Transportation Minister Mu’azu Sambo; Health Minister Dr Osagie Ehanire; Communications and Digital Economy Minister Prof. Isa Pantami; Sports Minister Chief Sunday Dare; Aviation Minister Senator Hadi Sirika; Environment Minister Mohammed Abdullahi; Works and Housing Minister Babatunde Fashola; and FCT Minister Mohammed Bello, among others.

The meeting also saw the attendance of Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama; Industry, Trade and Investment Minister Otunba Niyi Adebayo; Women Affairs Minister Dame Pauline Tallen; Education Minister Mallam Adamu Adamu; Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Minister Mrs. Sadiya Umar Farouk; Police Affairs Minister Mohammed Dingyadi; and Niger Delta Affairs Minister Umana Umana, among others.

Meanwhile, President Buhari is expected to return to Nigeria this week after an extended trip to London, United Kingdom. Initially traveling to participate in the coronation ceremony of the British Monarch, King Charles III, on May 3, the President’s stay was extended to undergo a dental procedure
