A tragic incident has occurred in the Alesa community of Eleme local government area in Rivers State, where a young man identified as Osaro Owate has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his mother. The argument that led to the fatal incident was said to have been over N10,000.
The suspect claimed to have been suffering from a spiritual problem for over 30 years, and confessed to have used a hoe to kill his mother. Owate said that he had asked for N20,000 from his mother to buy clothes for a burial ceremony, but only received N10,000. In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Owate explained that his mother had abused him, stating that his mates were working and questioning why he was still jobless.
The suspect claimed to have his own problems that were preventing him from working, leading to an argument with his mother. He went on to say that his anger reached a boiling point, and he ended up hitting his mother with a hoe. She was in the kitchen preparing food when the incident happened.
As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command had not responded to the incident.
