The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued a circular to all airline operators ordering them to relocate their aircraft from the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja to alternate airports. The circular, dated May 8 and issued on Tuesday, stated that the upcoming May 29 presidential inauguration is a high-security event, and safety and security measures must be enhanced.
The circular, with reference number FAAN/ABJ/NAIA/RGM/NC/AM/1000/VOl-1 and signed by the Regional General Manager (North Central), Kabir Mohammed, directed all aircraft parked at the GAT to be relocated to alternate airports. It stated that to ensure the safety and security of parties involved in the inauguration, it has become necessary to temporarily relocate all aircraft parked at the GAT.
The circular further instructed airline operators to relocate their aircraft on or before May 22, 2023. Failure to comply with this directive may result in appropriate sanctions, according to the circular.
Airlines are expected to adhere to the directive in order to avoid any inconvenience that may result from non-compliance. The circular underscores the need for airlines to take the security and safety of the Presidential inauguration seriously
