In Katsina State, a 17-year-old senior secondary student, Abdulrahman Ibrahim, has been arrested and charged with the murder of a phone dealer whom he allegedly stabbed in the neck and robbed of his phone. The incident occurred on April 21, 2023, and the teenager was among the 74 suspects arrested by the Katsina State police command during recent raids of black spots in various parts of the state.
According to the police, Ibrahim lured the phone dealer to the Modoji area of the town, where he attacked him with a knife. However, the suspect claims that he killed the victim in self-defence when the victim tried to kill him and wounded him in the hand.
In his confession to journalists, the teenager stated that he had no intention of killing the phone dealer and that he acted in self-defence. Nevertheless, he has been charged with murder and will face trial.
The Katsina State police spokesman, CSP Gambo Isah, disclosed that the police had carried out raids in several locations within the Katsina metropolitan area, including Sabuwar Unguwar, Gadar Nayali, Modoji, and Tundun Yanlihidda’Kwabren Dorawa, among others. The operation led to the arrest of 74 suspects who were allegedly involved in various criminal activities.
The tragic incident involving the 17-year-old Katsina student and the phone dealer is a reminder of the need for increased security measures in the state. It is also a warning to young people to avoid getting involved in criminal activities that could ruin their lives and harm others.
