“We’ll welcome Wike if he joins APC”, Rivers state chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Tony Okocha, has extended an invitation to Rivers State governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to join the party if he decides to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Okocha, who made the statement during a press conference in Port Harcourt, also praised Wike for his contributions towards the election of APC’s president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

As the political landscape of Nigeria shifts, Okocha emphasized that the APC would welcome Wike to the party, but also expressed his desire for a multi-party system in the country. “If Governor Wike wants to come to the All Progressives Congress, we will welcome him. But one thing is clear, I don’t think Nigeria wants to be a one-party country,” he said.

Okocha further noted that, while he does not support Wike’s party, he recognizes the governor’s achievements in physical infrastructure development in Rivers State. According to him, “on physical infrastructure development in Rivers State, Governor Wike is the best.”

As the political climate in Nigeria continues to evolve, the possibility of Wike defecting to the APC could have significant implications. Nonetheless, Okocha’s statement highlights the willingness of the APC to welcome political defectors into their ranks.
