Land dispute claims life of man in Niger

Must read

A tragic incident occurred in Mokwa local government area of Niger State where a 35-year-old man, Saidu Alhassan, lost his life while receiving treatment in Mokwa General Hospital. The incident was a result of a longstanding land dispute between Eppa village and Eti Sheshi, which turned violent when Alhassan was attacked by some angry youths from Eti Sheshi while he was purchasing diesel in Mokwa.

According to sources, the youths traced Alhassan to the hospital and forcefully gained entrance to the facility to kill him. They even threatened the doctor and matron, brandishing dangerous weapons without any quick security response. The incident caused the hospital to shut down until a joint security team was mobilized to the area to prevent any reprisal attacks.

The Eppa community has since appealed to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello and other stakeholders to intervene in the dispute between the two communities that has claimed three lives so far. Abubakar Ndatsu Alhassan and Salihu Ishaq Eppa, spokesmen of the Eppa community, expressed their lamentation over Alhassan’s death, saying that he was killed without provocation over the four-year land dispute.
