The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 56-year-old man, Aminu Abubakar, for allegedly beating his estranged wife, Nana Fadimatu, to death in Yola, the state capital. According to police reports, the suspect was angered by the knowledge that his wife was planning to marry another man.
The deceased had been divorced twice by Abubakar but was provided accommodation pending the settlement of the divorce. The suspect furiously engaged her on May 5, 2023, at around 10 pm, and reportedly hit her with a hard object, causing her to fall unconscious and eventually pass away.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRP) stated that the suspect was apprehended by the police following a report from the awaiting husband, Mahmud Rufai. The Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, commended the Divisional Police Headquarters for arresting the suspect and ensuring that he did not escape justice. The Commissioner further ordered the Anti-Homicide Unit, attached to the State CID, to take over the investigation to ensure that the law takes its course.
It is believed that the suspect’s wife had been planning to marry another man, a development that angered Abubakar, who then resorted to violence. Investigation so far reveals that the suspect is the manager of Anasam Table Water at Jambutu 50 Housing and had one child with the deceased after 9 years of marriage.
In conclusion, the police have called on citizens to report people of suspicious character around their neighborhoods to the police. The suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law
