The Lagos State Taskforce has carried out a follow-up exercise and mop-up operation at the Lekki Coastal Road, promising that the demolition of illegal structures in the area will be a continuous exercise. The Chairman of the agency, Chief Superintendent of Police Shola Jejeloye, led the operation to remove shanties and criminal hideouts in order to create a serene and habitable environment for residents in the area.
The operation took place in the early hours of Sunday and lasted about six hours, during which 38 suspects were arrested. The makeshift shanties by the roadside were also demolished to ensure free vehicular movement along that route.
Jejeloye warned all squatters and unscrupulous elements who try to defy the agency’s activities to have a rethink and turn over a new leaf or risk being prosecuted. He appealed to roadside traders in the area to move their wares to the designated market complex rather than defacing the streets and roads.
The Chairman said, “Clearing of this area will be sustained for as long as it takes till we achieve our objective of creating a society that is safe and habitable for residents and Lagosians as a whole.” The agency promised to intensify its aggressive patrol of the area to ensure the sustainability of its efforts.
By taking action against illegal structures and criminal hideouts, the Lagos State Taskforce is creating a safer and more habitable environment for residents and visitors in the area. The continuous exercise promises to maintain order and cleanliness along the Lekki Coastal Road
