Yari insists constitution, not Tinubu, will determine next Senate President

Must read

Zamfara West Senator-elect, Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari, has dismissed the suggestion by President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to step down for Senator Godswill Akpabio in the Senate Presidency race. Yari is adamant about contesting the position and has stated that the contest will be based on constitutional provisions and not instructions by anyone.

As the immediate-past governor of Zamfara State, Yari has vast experience in leadership and understands the importance of following constitutional provisions. He emphasized that the contest for the Senate Presidency is based on the senators’ business, as backed by the 1999 Constitution, to choose their leaders within themselves and not based on instructions from anyone.

Yari’s refusal to step down has raised eyebrows in some quarters, but he remains resolute, stating, “What is going to happen that day, it is going to happen based on the instructions of the constitution and not for anyone.” He is committed to upholding the constitutional provisions that guide the Senate Presidency race.

The contest for the Senate Presidency is an important one, as it determines who will lead the Senate for the next four years. With Yari’s insistence on following constitutional provisions, it remains to be seen how the race will play out. One thing is certain, however: the Constitution, not Tinubu, will determine the next Senate President
