A Lagos-based lawyer, Kelvin Abiodun, has been arraigned by the police in Lagos for an alleged theft of N19.2 million and property damage of N7.5 million. Abiodun was arraigned before Magistrate Taiwo Babalola at the state magistrate’s court in Tinubu on a five-count charge of alleged conspiracy, stealing, malicious damage, assault, and breach of peace.
The police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Igbenose, informed the court that the defendant and his alleged accomplices committed the offences between January 28 and February 4, 2023, at about 11pm at No. 34b, Talabi Street, Boet Estate, ABC Bus Stop, Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to Igbenose, Abiodun and his accomplices stole several items including Crocodile shoes, Nike shoes, two wristwatches, a Nutribullet blender, a wireless bluetooth speaker, 12 company Glo sim cards, and one Airtel sim card. The allegedly stolen items were valued by the police at N19,296,300 and said to be the property of Jude Obiakor and Mrs. Obiakor Onyinye Jacinta.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant damaged a treadmill, a sofa, a North Shore table, and an LG3 French door with an ice maker, all valued at N7.5 million. Furthermore, the defendant and his accomplices unlawfully assaulted Obiakor Onyinye Jacinta by pushing her to the gate and conducted himself “in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace by unlawfully detaining properties belonging to one Jude Obiakor and Mrs. Obiakor Onyinye Jacinta.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the court granted him bail on self-recognizance. The matter was adjourned to May 22 for mention. The offences violated sections 144, 168(d), 172, 287, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
