Must read

In a major breakthrough, the Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Ifasoji Ayangbesan, a notorious member of a ritualist syndicate who allegedly murdered Oyindamola Adeyemi on January 28, 2023, and dismembered her body in Ijebu Ode.

Following a painstaking intelligence-based investigation carried out by detectives from Obalende Divisional Police headquarters, the 35-year-old suspect was apprehended at his hideout in the Ijade Iloti area of Ijebu Ode on April 28, 2023.

It was revealed that Ayangbesan’s colleagues had earlier been arrested, and he had gone into hiding as soon as he heard that he had been implicated in the crime. The DPO of Obalende Division, SP Murphy Salami, had ordered his men to track down Ayangbesan and recover the victim’s two legs.

After his arrest, Ayangbesan attempted to bribe the policemen with N1 million, an offer that was flatly rejected. During questioning, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the murder and the dismemberment of the victim’s legs, which he claimed were used for ritual purposes.

According to the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Yomi Oladimeji, praised the uprightness of the policemen and directed that Ayangbesan be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for prosecution along with his accomplices.

This arrest represents a significant victory for law enforcement in Ogun State, as it demonstrates the commitment of the police to rid the state of criminal elements who engage in heinous crimes such as ritual killings.

The use of intelligence-based investigations and the rejection of bribe offers also shows the dedication of the police to the fight against corruption and criminality.

The successful operation will serve as a deterrent to other criminal syndicates operating in the state, and will reassure the public that the police are working tirelessly to ensure their safety and security
