In a massive crackdown on criminal activities, the Kaduna State government has announced that the police have arrested 98 members of a notorious gang known as ‘Sara-Suka’ in Kaduna Metropolis. According to the commissioner of internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the gang members were responsible for attacking innocent citizens and snatching their belongings, which led to the loss of lives and injuries.
The statement further revealed that 19 of the suspects have been charged to court, while 61 are undergoing investigation. Aruwan also disclosed that Governor Nasir El-Rufai demanded aggressive action against the criminals and tasked the command to ensure due diligence in prosecution without compromise. He urged members of the affected communities to provide the names of suspected gang members in their localities for follow-up action by security agencies.
The police arrested the 98 suspects between April 26 and April 28. The report also revealed that several exhibits, including snatched mobile phones, knives, scissors, cudgels, leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, assorted hard drugs, and accessories to aid their consumption, master keys, and other valuables, were recovered from the suspects.
The governor directed that the manhunt for those at large should be intensified until they are all brought to justice. To this end, he provided two phone lines, 09034000060 and 08170189999, where relevant information about the suspects can be forwarded to the Security Operations Room.
The arrest of these gang members is part of the government’s efforts to stem the tide of criminal activities in the state. The government has previously announced several measures, including the deployment of security personnel to flashpoints in the state, to ensure the safety and security of citizens. The arrest and prosecution of the suspects will serve as a deterrent to others who engage in criminal activities.
