In a bid to promote national unity and foster an inclusive political process, the Nationalists Forum, a House of Representatives caucus, has presented its zoning template for the upcoming 10th National Assembly to President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The caucus, comprising over 260 members from different political parties, aims to ensure the equitable distribution of principal offices, including Speakership, based on the country’s geographical spread.
At a meeting held in Abuja, the group’s convener, Chief Philip Agbese, announced the adoption of the zoning formula and emphasized that it is in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. The lawmakers expressed their commitment to galvanizing the nation and bridging the gap created by tribal, political, ethnic, and religious sentiments.
Chief Agbese added that they would seek an audience with President-elect Tinubu to submit their template, which he is expected to adopt as a “thorough democrat” for the country’s healing and progress. He assured Nigerians that the best leaders would emerge to lead the House of Representatives.
As part of their efforts to promote national integration, the Nationalists Forum advocates for a political process that prioritizes the country’s unity and development over sectional interests. The caucus seeks to ensure that every region and ethnic group has a fair representation in the leadership of the National Assembly.
