My appointments will be based on competence, says Alia

Must read

In a bid to calm the anxiety of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State over appointments, Governor-elect Hyacinth Alia has assured party members that appointments will be based on competence. Alia, who is a Catholic priest-turned politician, added that everyone who genuinely worked for the party’s victory would be accommodated in the government based on their abilities.

Alia made this statement during the inauguration of a 27-member transition committee in Makurdi. He also urged them to liaise with the committee set up by the outgoing Governor Samuel Ortom administration to ensure a smooth transition come May 29, 2023. The governor-elect explained that the choice of the committee members was beyond partisan politics, and was based on their antecedents.

He charged the committee members to show maximum commitment and a considerable level of sincerity to demonstrate their patriotism while carrying out the assignment. According to him, millions of Benue people who voted the All Progressives Congress into power were looking up to them, and they should be fair, transparent, and just in discharging their responsibility in the same manner of trust they have been selected as members of the committee.

While praying for their wisdom to carry out the assignment effectively, Alia congratulated the committee members for making the list and urged them to maintain the integrity that distinguished them in all fairness, trust, and for the love of the state.

Alia also urged party members against unnecessary anxiety over appointments, pointing out that there are many opportunities to accommodate everybody in government based on their abilities. He assured that no one who genuinely worked for the victory of the party would be left out.

Chairman of the committee, Mike Iordye, expressed appreciation to the governor-elect for finding them worthy out of over seven million competent Benue indigenes to serve in the committee. He added that the trust reposed in them would not be taken for granted.

Governor-elect Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has promised to base appointments on competence, urging party members to work towards a smooth transition come May 29, 2023. Alia’s statement aims to quell anxiety among APC members, assuring them that there are many opportunities to accommodate everyone in government based on their abilities.
