The Muslim community in Anambra State has endorsed Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, as the most transparent and detribalised Nigerian to lead the country. The endorsement was made by the Chief Imam of Onitsha Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulraman Iman, during a visit by Obi to the Muslim community to celebrate Eid-el-fitri with them. Alhaji Abdulraman Iman praised Obi for his transparency and detribalisation, stating that he was the best candidate to lead Nigeria. He also commended Obi for his past achievements, including rebuilding the Central Mosque in Onitsha that was destroyed during the Chris Ngige administration. The secretary of Arewa community in the state, Mahmud Iman, also dispelled the allegations made against Obi that he maltreated northerners and Muslims during his time as governor of Anambra State.
Mahmud Iman also praised Obi for his contributions to the well-being of people in many states in the North. He said that Obi had assisted about 150 Muslims to travel to Mecca to perform hajj and had been helping people in many states in the North. He also expressed confidence that Obi would win the presidency in court and called him the popular choice of the people of the country.
In response to the endorsement and plea for assistance towards the renovation of the mosque, Obi assured the Muslim community that he would not only assist in the project but also intervene in education and health services in the area.
