Ebonyi Int’l cargo airport set to commence test flight in 7 days

The Ebonyi State International Cargo Airport is set to commence test flight in seven days, according to Engr. Frank Ngwu, the Site Manager of the airport. Engr. Ngwu, who is also the Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi on Infrastructural Development, stated that the airport was ready for flight operations.

He added that 95% of the runway had already been marked, and the remainder would be concluded within the next three days. The airport boasts modern equipment made in Europe and the latest infrastructure in the aviation industry.

Engr. Ngwu further revealed that the terminal building is the largest in Nigeria, and the apron is the biggest in Nigeria, covering 133,000 square meters. The International wing measures 60,000 square meters, while the domestic wing apron is 60,000 square meters.

The airport’s emergency operation center, police post, and immigration office have all been completed, while other buildings within the airport, such as substations, halls, and switch rooms, have all been constructed. Metrology equipment both within and outside the airport has also been installed.

The airport’s runway is the only rigid concrete runway in Nigeria, with a thickness of 65cm, making it capable of handling even the largest cargo aircraft in the world. Engr. Ngwu revealed that the airport is constructed to be the best and biggest in Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

The vision bearer of the project, Governor David Umahi, has demonstrated his quest for speedy development of his State and people. With the size and strength of the airport’s runway, the airport can receive the biggest aircraft in the world.
