2 arrested for killing okada rider, stealing motorcycle in Bauchi

Police operatives in Bauchi State have arrested two youths, identified as Hashimu Adamu and Anas Muhammad, for allegedly killing an Okada rider, Muhammad Tukur, and stealing his motorcycle. The suspects were reported to have lured the victim to Badaqoshi village, Bauchi Local Government Area, where they stabbed him in the abdomen with a sharp knife and slaughtered him. They then abandoned his dead body and made away with his Bajaj motorcycle.

According to a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the incident was reported on April 5, 2023, by one Ibrahim Umar of Kangere ward, Bauchi local government. The victim, who was an Okada rider, had been reported missing by his younger brother. Wakil stated that the police obtained the particulars of the missing person and disseminated them to various areas within Bauchi and beyond.

Subsequently, on April 9, 2023, the Maina-Maji Divisional Headquarters received information about a decomposed male corpse sighted at Shinge village forest in Alkaleri LGA, which was later identified to be the missing Okada rider. Investigation revealed that the two suspects were the last passengers sighted with the Okada rider heading to Badaqoshi village.

The police detectives attached to the command swiftly swung into action and arrested the suspects for interrogation. During the interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and said that they had conspired to lure the Okada rider to Badaqoshi village, where they killed him and made away with his motorcycle.

The Police Public Relations Officer added that a Coroner’s Form C has been completed, and the dead body has been evacuated to ATBU Teaching Hospital Bauchi for examination. The medical practitioner has confirmed the victim’s death. Exhibits recovered from the suspects include a Boxer Bajaj Motorcycle that is red in color. The police investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.

The incident highlights the need for adequate security measures to protect individuals and their property. The police and other law enforcement agencies must step up their efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens and their belongings.
